The FranksSuzy Can't Spell (Album) They're playing Glastonbury this summer, they were selected from over 2300 entrants in Q Magazine's New Talent competition, they've had Radio 1 airplay and they've toured America 's East Coast. Now The Franks have released their debut album on indiestore, and 2008 is looking like it might just be their year. “At a time where world-weary means tight-jeaned indie, emotional means EMO, and ‘popular' means affected, this is odd, exciting, and refreshingly honest.” [Fireline Music Magazine] Hari and AinoI Will Leave If you can taste the rainbow in a bag of Skittles you can hear it in these songs from Hari and Aino. Bursting with vibrant colour and spirit, this quirky pop quintet paint an ornate soundscape of jolly pop. From the shores of Sweden, sweetened by the sugary sound of leading lady Andrea Dahlkild's lyrics, Hari and Aino is positively pleasing to the palate. Kotki DwaRobin's Clogs Kotki Dwa… Aw, don't they sound cute, like little fizzy sweets, or bubbles in pink lemonade. The name isn't deceptive. This band encompass everything that is good about music. Their charming, highly addictive tracks contain heartfelt, teary, hopelessly pretty vocals that make you want to cry. Basically, Kotki Dwa are like a musical Mary Poppins – practically perfect in every way. They're a shining beacon of electro-pop with ebbing guitars, softness, sweetness, twinkles and light. What's not to love?! EpiGram The MeltdownsClub Sedition You could dance to this funk-punk, I guess, though you might break your ankles if you try. Almost everything is played fast and hard, and most songs build to some kind of thunderous instrumental climax. Copeland and Gray don't trade guitar licks as much as they set their six-strings against each other like roosters in a cock-fight. The Meltdowns are closer to the anarchic spirit of Gang Of Four than any of the recent spate of dance-rock imitators. Jersey Beat Sounds Like AprilSomething BeautifulThis swooning duo from the Western Isles of Scotland delivers those happily-ever-after harmonies that leave young girls spellbound – and gushing over the first guy that crosses their path next. Overflowing with vehemently romantic melodies and passionately anguished acoustics, Sounds Like April serves as the perfect soundtrack to a rained-on relationship in need of those May flowers. |
