No Manager, No Label, No PR budget – Talented London singer-songwriter’s do it yourself bid for chart success Callaghan to mobilise 40,000 strong MySpace army to storm UK Top 40 London Singer-songwriter Georgina Callaghan is to take on the UK’s musical establishment this autumn with a determined ‘do it yourself’ campaign to storm the charts and show how the music industry is changing. The 25-year-old is rallying her 40,000 MySpace friends and other music fans to take her into the top 40 despite having no record label, manager or publicist. Callaghan, who professionally just uses her surname, wants to prove that singing covers on the X factor is not the only way to make it in the modern music industry. Today, fans of real music and original songs can help a talented musician succeed. The North London girl has been gigging on the London acoustic scene for five years and has built up a loyal fan base. Callaghan will release her self-penned song ‘Look Around’ as a download on Saturday October 26th and if around 2,500 UK fans buy it that week she’ll stand a great chance of making the Top 40 on Sunday November 1st. Speaking about her David vs Goliath campaign Callaghan said: “I love gigging, I love writing, but now I want to bring my music to a wider audience. Lots of radio stations have told me they love my music, but won’t put me on air until I am signed by a record company. I want to show that things have changed. Today it’s not all about who the labels decide to back. Downloads have made music more democratic and now fans can decide who becomes famous. I’ve got over 40,000 MySpace friends around the world, but to reach the charts I need around 2,500 UK fans to sign up to support my campaign and download Look Around on October 26th.
