There's leaves on the Line

05/04/2009 By Adam Clarkson

Hello folks, I’m feeling somewhat knackered after the weekend’s festivities, although it was almost completely alcohol free so at least there’s no quagmire of self loathing at least to deal with. It’s been another strange week for me, I’m definitely feeling like I’m going through a weird period of my life, and it all seems a bit uncertain. I think everyone goes through strange transitions throughout their lives but I seem to be in a place that’s fairly isolated in comparison to my pals and it’s a bit lonely. Having said that I’m taking a long hard look at myself and in reality it’s the first time in years and years that I’ve been on my own or at least mentally on my own. I’ve been proper single now for 6 months, the longest ever has been 8 months and that was well over 3 years ago so it’s a weird period. I feel like I don’t have a safety net but I don’t want no woe is me shite because things are not bad, they could just even out a little and not manifest themselves as small 2 weekly crisis’s. I’m tired today but I’m good tired. So the tour? This tour is obviously to promote “the Terrorist” coming out on May 25th as a single and the art work looks absolutely great thanks to Nat. In fact she is the mystery girl on the cover. I’ll post the cover when I’ve got an electric copy. I’m glad this single is coming out physically. I’m guessing the limited 100 copies will sell fairly sharpish, just got to remember to keep one for myself this time. Saturday - BIRMINGHAM Academy 3: We rolled into Birmingham to discover the tickets for the gig were £9 as we were supporting some guy who’s big in Australia. Ash Grunwald. He was your typical surfer, acoustic, stacked, dreadlocked aussie troubadour, probably bangs a lot of women at surf competitions and attracts an army of “chilled” out hippie/surfer fans. Basically the sort of people you see at arts cafes with painted faces, with meat and dairy free diets. Basically a bunch of annoying cunts that spend more time perfecting their hippie look and hippy caricature than actually being actual free spirits. Fippies I suppose umm….meaning fake hippies. To be fair to Ash he was quite a nice dude, and his music was good for what it was but he turned up 4 hours late for sound check looking like he’d just smoked 20 buckets. I’m guessing his tour manager had also smoked 20 buckets with him because 4 hours late is just rude when it results in the support acts only getting a line check. This lack of sound check resulted in our slot being sloppy, and loose sounding. Ben had nothing in his monitors, I could hear nothing but reverb from the front monitors and the crowd reacted to us like we were the only gay donkey in a field full of really fit female donkeys horny for a donkey fucking. It was a strange booking decision; Ash Grunwald and Captain Dangerous just don’t go together. It was like an old man turning up to an under tens sunday league football team try out and being shunned by the other parents sad in the knowledge that his own parents were long dead. Sunday - Leeds Sunday in Leeds was much much better, probably because people from Yorkshire are just really nice and genuinely seem to have a love for live music. We managed to perform in the city centre in glorious sunshine for the best part of the day. I’m starting to think that our manager booking us a UK busking tour to promote the single was a good idea despite my initial thoughts. It’s knackering but I like the punk rock Clash style ethics of just standing up and getting on with it wherever you are. The songs have nowhere to hide and if you’re shit the baying crowd will ignore you or at worst just laugh at you. Thankfully we had a great response from the people of Leeds. It’s a really friendly town. Also playing street gigs lets you meet lots of strange and wonderful people; Leeds was full of these sorts of characters. My favourite chap yesterday was a guy called Gary who hung around all day, tried to sell me a watch and a pair of shoes and even did some MCing along to our music. He was a nice guy and even insisted on doing some sort of strange dancing in the street. Brilliant. Also thanks to the kids who fed us with cream eggs. Leeds you’re a great town! That’s it for now, adx
