Welcome to The Magnificat Time

What is Magnificat? I try to give an answer in a choral composition which contributes to the great tradition of Magnificat Settings. So far I have completed the first two parts of my Magnificat, which I have subtitled “Magnificat Fragmente”.
The Virgin Mary listened to the Angel Gabriel with joy and fear, when he told her the news about the new king she had been chosen by God to be mother for. In my composition I want to express the difficult mixture of feelings which follow the entrance in life of a new human being. Happiness, fear, loving care, doubt, gladness, anger and powerlessness.
The thought behind this work is that when a newborn life comes into the world the old life will be fragmented. The framentation of the old life is both beautiful and frightening.
The Magnificat I was first performed by Ensemble Vest at Komvest Kormusik 2003 in Kristkirken, CPH
The Magnificat II was first performed by Chamber Choir Hymnia at Komvest Kormusik 2007 in Round Tower, CPH
