What's it all about?

27/11/2006 By Anthony Lewis

In January 2006 Jersey Evening Post journalist Anthony Lewis, fat from turkey and surrounded by things he didn’t need, decided he’d had enough of Christmas. He also decided he’d had enough of X Factor, so he set about doing something about it. Without a musical bone in his body, he decided that he would write this year’s Christmas number one song and over the course of the year has shared with the readers of his regular column his excruciating attempts at song-writing. Wisely, Anthony enlisted the help of his musically talented but secretive friend Tom Andromedan and in the latter’s bedroom studio they finally made a breakthrough. If he was going to be number one, Anthony decided it might as well be with a song that changed the world. Colour This Time (Hug a Muslim) is not only a protest song against materialism – it is a call for love and conciliation at a time of year more associated with recklessness and greed. It’s as subtle as a demolition ball but a genuine attempt to unite the human race. The video is harder to explain.
