Laura's Diary - by Toxic Pete (http://www.toxicpete.co.uk/)
Lizzyspit is a London based, classically trained, singer/songwriter with a penchant for quirky but solidly formed music. 'Laura's Diary' couldn't get much more stripped down; guitar and voice and that's it!
So, no big production, no classical histrionics here - just Lizzyspit delivering her catchy little song with a very low-key but endearing quality that's a bit 'girl next door' - full of honesty, realism and, it has to be said, charm. Lizzyspit goes about her poetry-in-music way just about as naturally as you can get, it's pure and pretty much 'live'.
'Laura's Diary' may not be the most commercial single I've come across recently but as a promo for the artist and forthcoming releases it certainly gets the job done and you're left with no doubt about what Lizzyspit is gonna be doing. This is quite a bold 'statement' - to release a single with the full 'back to basics' treatment goes against the grain nowadays. But, I admire Lizzyspit for being true to herself and having the sheer guts to forge ahead with her honest approach.
'Laura's Diary' by Lizzyspit aint gonna go scorchin' up the 'charts' any day soon. But, as a 'starter for ten', 'Laura's Diary' is a quaintly beautiful work that potentially leaves the artist open for all sorts of criticism. Hopefully, Lizzyspit will challenge the music biz with her relaxed, thoughtful acoustic style for a while yet. It's cool to hear someone givin' it real like this - good luck Lizzyspit and well done!!

Introducing.......LizzySpit
Here at Rhythm & Booze, we pride ourselves on having our collective fingers on the pulse when it comes to introducing you, the lucky readers, the best new music. We spend many hours disgesting new music each and every week in a bid to discover a new sound or an artsit that we feel deserves your attention. We literally listen to hours of crap to unearth a gem, but it's all worthwhile when you stumble upon someone like LizzySpit.
LizzySpit (or Elizabeth Knights Ward if you prefer) is a 22-year old singer-songwriter from Clapham, who has already managed to pick up a bit of radio-airplay with her charming tales of the trials and tribulations of everyday life.
Last year (2007) saw people begin to sit up and take notice of the music of LizzySpit, she managed to crash into The Folk Chart's top thirty, as well managing to play a number of high profile gigs at such renowned venues as The Half Moon at Putney.
Lizzy's laidback and melodic delivery has seen her compared to the likes of Katie Meula, Norah Jones and Kate Nash among others, but in truth Lizzy is very much an artist in her own right, her combination of heartfelt, soulful vocals and quirky melodies are both unique and instantly contagious. After one visit to either her Myspace or Facebook profile page will have you hooked.
On the 15th of May LizzySpit releases her debut single, Laura's Diary on her own label, but before that release, you can bag yourself a FREE six-track EP by simply visiting her Myspace profile and downloading a "live in the bedroom" track weekly for the next six weeks, after which she'll offer up downloadable artwork for your newly completed Bedroom Sessions EP".
With Lizzy's ever growing fanbase and infectious songs, she could well become one of the big success stories of 2008, so I suggest you get acquainted with her stunning voice and intoxicating stories by bagging yourselves a copy of the Bedroom Sessions EP whilst you have the chance.
