Reviews
Nephu Huzzband
No Not Ever
added: 26 Apr 2009 // release date: 20 Apr 2009 // label: Deep Recording Co
reviewer: Josh Charig
Nephu Huzzband’s fourth single release is a short powerful blast of post punk aggression that stands right in your face, and as quickly as it came, it disappears again leaving you with a slightly uplifted feeling.
Full of dirty bass, thick guitar power chords and saturated vocal tracks, this is a modern punk band who are down to earth and possibly the next best thing since Iggy Pop. No Not Ever is over in one minute and three seconds leaving you with the repeat button on. One listen is just never enough.
No Not Ever is one of the best singles out in a long time. It’s worth leaving the house to get a copy of, especially with the very clever artwork of making a CD look like a vinyl by cutting grooves into the top layer.
Nephu Huzzband – No Not Ever
April 17, 2009 by Dave Adair
Blistering garage rock meets throaty, stammering punk to ransack logical thought and give the paranoia indulgers something to briefly enjoy. Weighing in at under the 70 seconds mark, this 4th single is like a Ricky Hatton jab. It’s a sharp reminder of the potency of this snappy outfit, laying out an intention that there is a lot more to follow.
It is the sort of slightly arty, brazen impact that The Horrors fleetingly displayed. Can Nephu Huzzband take this approach to the next level? They are not giving too much away in regards to answer that question with this fleeting foray, but the promise is there.

Nephu Huzzband - New Single -Should Have Used An Abacus

Nephu Huzzband
New Single - 'Should Have Used An Abacus'
Comes with 'Clockwork' due OCt 6th..Pre order here...
See what Toxic Pete Said below..
''I just don't know where these young guys get their ideas and motivation from - if anyone has any ideas, I suggest you get in the queue to get some for yourself. Nephu Huzzband are not just a decent band, they're a great band and where they've got an edge on most of their contemporaries is that they've discovered a signature style and sound that's like nobody else out there. As soon as the first track opens you know it's gonna be Nephu Huzzband - instant appeal, instantly identifiable, instant pleasure!!
'Should Have Used An Abacus' and its 'b' side, 'Clockwork' both find Nephu Huzzband in ebullient mood, both tracks skip along apace and both work equally well as commercially viable tracks. Hey, these guys are just so prolific! And, not only have Nephu Huzzband managed to get themselves a distinctive rockin' sound but they keep coming up with more and more excellent work - this lot seem to be tireless workaholics with a massively creative streak and a really great energy that they keep on pumping back into their bubbly music.
'Should Have Used An Abacus' rattles along with big beats, jangly guitars and well proportioned drive. If that's not enough for you then there's more in the form of 'Clockwork'! Great music from a very distinctive and original sounding band. Nephu Huzzband seem to be generating a lot of interest and they're getting good exposure - 'Should Have Used An Abacus' is only gonna strengthen their cause and add meat to an already chunky and juicy bone. Wonderfully original sound, great writing, kick-ass punchy stuff from the band that just won't sit still!!
See them Live at Manchester ITC with Laurel Collective. Oct 7th on stage 9:45 pm ..FREE entry gig..doors open from 4pm.

2008 Biog
22/02/2008 10:35:48 By MR
Picking up the pieces that The Cure, Mission Of Burma, the great Joy Division and the now sadly defunct Q And Not U left behind, ‘Papers’ is the stirring, melodic and dissonant debut single from the inspirationally young Nephu Huzzband.
This Nottingham based four piece play with a fluidity that belies their age; punctuated with stabbing reverb-soaked guitars and seamless hooks, they craft a sound that broods and enthrals in equal measures.
In an understated pairing of lo-fi, art-rock and off-kilter rhythms, Nephu Huzzband employ an approach that is minimalist, but rather begs the more accurate description of effortless. A torrent of shotgun drumming and injections of staccato guitar are played out behind vocalist Tom Bentley as he masquerades as helpless crooner and quickly changes to forceful purveyor of the band’s lyrical content.
The B side, ‘Either This Wallpaper Goes Or I Do’, evolves in a most progressive manner, held together by a rousing vocal with a melody that pushes the whole track into what was The Cure’s territory in the 80’s.
Nephu Huzzband, in their brief lifespan of less than a year, have already supported Die! Die! Die!, Meet Me In St Louis and Fear of Flying and are swiftly proving themselves in contention for wider success in 2008. ‘Papers’ only goes further to substantiate Nephu Huzzband’s prospects as one of the UK’s most promising and forward-thinking younger indie-rock bands.

Nephu Huzzband biog
08/10/2007 15:16:04 By MR
Nephu Huzzband are a young four piece from Nottingham. They make noisy sonic indie using two vocals/guitars, bass and drums.
They are:
Tom Bentley -
Vocals/Guitar/Harmonica
Adam Popple -
Guitar/Vocals
Jamie Barrow -
Bass/Vocals
Rob Challinor -
Drums/Percussion
Nephu Huzzband combine a large range of influences to create a sound that is unique to themselves.
Mixing together elements of Indie, Post-Hardcore, Screamo, Art-Rock, New wave, Old School Emo and Punk to create a fresh sound that many people struggle to classify.
Gigging to increasingly receptive crowds, including great recent performances with The Victorian English Gentlemens Club, Die! Die! Die!, Notekillers and Fear of Flying, to name a few.
They like bands like: …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Sonic Youth, At The Drive-in and Joy Division.
In the past they have been described as sounding like bands as diverse as Fugazi to Klaxons.
Some other people have said the following:
"Being well described as "Indiecore", the band combine post-hardcore and indie rock influences to achieve an overall and affectively different sound" - Sandman Magazine.
"Their riffs are well written and interlock well mixing a weird indie rock sound with a very progressive edge, imagine a tug of war between Franz Ferdinand and At The Drive-in with The Pixies cutting the rope and it all ending in a huge messy pile" - Saggy Pants Magazine.
