blogging hell!

24/09/2009 19:38:51 By ministry of change

This blog was getting on my nerves (you cant even press the return key to start a new paragraph, or add a link or ANYFINK!), so any blogging in future will be done on our blogger page: http://theashandtheoak.wordpress.com/ which I would turn into a link if the men in suits at indiestore would let me, pah!

2000 and hate or 2000 and great?

17/12/2008 13:06:14 By ministry of misadventure

It's that time of year again, when you sit back and reflect on the (under)achievements of the year. It's been pretty eventful all in all, what with a CD being released by those lovely folks at Countrymile, the radio 1 session, the Kruger single, playing the swn festival. There were moments of horrible stress and rows, predictably around gigs. Me arguing with sound engineers became a running joke, particularly on the occasion where the engineer objected to the use of a piece of white cloth on the stage, on fire prevention grounds, as she was stacking a pile of cardboard boxes next to our amps. Some people who do deserve a special mention for being very kind to us when they didn't have to be are the Llanhilleth Acoustice Showcase folks (beautiful hall), and the Mish Mash crew (lovely spread). In spite of our fear of playing live, we managed to enjoy some of the performances, and I hope we do a bit more gigging next year. I also vow to learn to play the piano a bit better. Next year will also witness the birth of another album (I've heard Simon's demos and they sound tip top) and our own perfume range, for him ('le ash') and her ('la oak'). I'm also planning on a sideline of pasta sauces but don't tell the rest of the band. Thanks again to everyone who helped us out this year - Kruger, Jon Rostron, LLanhileth Acoustic Showcase, Mish Mash, Bethyn Elfyn, Adam Walton, the Joy Collective and anyone else who has cast an ear over our music this year. An extra massive thanks to Ray at Countrymile for his support. Onward!

how swn was then?

18/11/2008 15:14:43 By ministry of dystopiation

Sunday's Swn festival gig at Dempseys went off relatively hitch-free. Soundcheck was an hour and a half late, which actually isn't too bad. Our record so far is waiting 6 hours, and then being told there wasn't time for a soundcheck, so by comparison this was being run with military precision. We had the usual nerves which always makes performances less enjoyable - when does that get better exactly? We did an interview for something to do with the British Council. I hogged the microphone talking rubbish on subjects I know nothing about, so whats new! Next is a bit of time off to do some of Simon's new songs, and an opportunity to rehearse and experiment more. What larks!

Coming Swn!

20/10/2008 09:12:29 By Ministry of Misalignment

We're looking forward to playing SWN festival on 16th Nov. We'll be supporting Richard James. I'm so excited I've done a bit of sick in my mouth.

Radio 1 Airplay

17/09/2008 14:46:20 By MInistry of Mysticism

We've been played recently on Radio 1 by Huw Stephens, Bethyn Elfyn and Rob Da Bank. As far as we're concerned that means we've conquered the UK, and so now we've got our sights set on the lucrative Belgian market. bent u klaar te schommelen?

physical release!

17/08/2008 11:52:46 By ministry of misalignment

Not content with making this album available as zeros and ones on here, the album is now having a limited physical 3-dimensional release, with a front cover, back cover, inside sleeve, edges, corners, and, ooh, everything! Its coming out on 22nd September 2008 on the delightful CountryMile record label (though there are some advance promo copies available now), so mosey on over there to pick up yourself a hand numbered, hand stickered slice of history - www.countrymile.org (it also comes with a sticker and a badge, like jackie or bunty would do)

A little video

01/07/2008 00:21:41 By ministry of misinformation

Did a little video a couple of days ago, of a new song. Thought you might like to hear/see it. Its on our youtube page http://www.youtube.com/theashandtheoak

Rehearsals Reschmersals

18/06/2008 09:44:06 By Ministry of Infotainment

We're starting a load of Summer rehearsals to reduce the backlog of Simon's new songs. He's a songwriting machine, I tells ya!

Over 100 sales!

02/06/2008 09:09:41 By Ministry of Information

Our sales on here have now broken the 100 barrier, muchas gracias to everyone who has purchased stuff off here. Shouldn't we be presented with a disc for these kind of sales, like they used to do at the Smash Hits poll winners party?

Slow Graffiti

26/05/2008 23:06:03 By Ministry of Information

Thanks to Slow Graffiti for a very enjoyable evening at Ten Feet Tall. It was a great line-up, and we all really enjoyed the other performers (how does Andrew Hockey play like that?). Hope we can do it again soon. Did you get your badge?

Thanks sooo much!

23/05/2008 09:09:44 By Ministry of Information

Thanks to everyone who has bought songs/albums from this site, we're really pleased with the response. Simon passes on his thanks too. Remember to buy the album (£5.99) if you're buying more than 7 songs coz it's cheaper! We're really looking forward to the gig on Sunday. We'll be playing a couple of new toons. I reckon Simon has almost half an album of new songs already, the busy little beaver!

Really, really ready now

21/05/2008 12:11:27 By Ministry of Information

Right, the album is now up, all proper, the latest versions, the final versions, the ultimate versions. sweet.

New songs are now appearing but only in the 'tracks' section

21/05/2008 09:18:48 By Ministry of Information

Managing this site is a bit of a bloody nightmare, some things are updating, other things aren't. What this means for you the punter is the 'album' section is offering the old versions of songs, but the 'tracks' section is offering the new versions of songs. I've no idea why this is happening, but I've emailed customer support and they're pretty good about this sort of thing. Im going to have a little cry by those bins.

Album updated/uploaded

20/05/2008 23:52:34 By Ministry of Information

The album is back up, but its not showing on here yet. I have to say the folks who work on this site are really helpful but the software isn't the best. Its so slow to update itself. Anyhoo, gripes aside, the proper album is now uploaded - hope its available soon.

Minor hitch

20/05/2008 14:25:10 By Ministry of Information

Due to an administrative error (I uploaded the wrong versions), we've taken down the album for a couple of hours, but they'll all be back on tonight (tuesday 20th May). We made it to number 6 on the Indiestore chart (in your face Sneddon), went a bit giddy and got wasted on cristal and crack. We've now dropped out of the charts and are back on snakebite and cheap speed. This business we call 'music' is a cruel mistress. Many thanks to those that purchased!

congratulations, its an album!

12/05/2008 23:33:06 By Ministry of Information

Cut the umbilical cord, fry up the placenta, its here! Theres an albums worth of new songs for you to wrap in swaddling and lay in a manger. Buy the whole damn thing for a measly £5.99 and be the talk of the town, the cream of the crop, the cock of the walk!

Almost here!

22/04/2008 12:08:29 By Ministry of Information

We are counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds to a full albums worth of sounds, arranged and harmonised in a way that is intended to delight and intrigue the ear. It is our intention to make sure everything is ready for our gig at Cardiff's Ten Feet Tall on Sunday, May 25th, 2008, where we will give away CD sleeves so folks can download the album, burn it, and pop it into the ready made sleeve. How novel!

On sale in April

12/03/2008 14:01:31 By ministry of information

With the wind behind us, there should be a full album's worth of songs for you to buy, download and hug a bit too tight by the end of April 2008. Simon takes his sweet time, but the end result is always worth the wait.
