Whizz Kid have bought Tough Cookie!

26/04/2007 14:18:23 By

Malcolm Gerrie's Whizz Kid Entertainment has bought digital content specialist and record label Tough Cookie. Whizz Kid, which is supported by venture capital funding through Ingenius Media, has bought the company as part of its strategy to build a portfolio new-style music programmes. Tough Cookie brings expertise in recording footage of artists for use in a variety of media, most commonly online. Tough Cookie was founded in 2004 by Andy Wood and Neill Sullivan, and last year moved to offices in Denmark Street. It has filmed more than 150 artists including Corinne Bailey Rae, McFly and Amy Winehouse, and produced events for brands including AOL and EA Games as well as major record labels. It also has a partnership with Tiscali, for whom it produced the Reading Festival Tiscali Sessions. As a label, Tough Cookie is home to The Shakes, Gliss and The Polyphonic Spree. Both Wood and Sullivan will remain with the company. Gerrie, formerly chief executive of Initial, says, "Tough Cookie have built up an enviable reputation for delivering cutting edge content and unique online and mobile solutions for an impressive range of clients. All of the programming Whizz Kid Entertainment is developing and producing requires digital applications and this move strengthens our ability to be a one-stop for broadcasters, brands, labels and artists." Sullivan adds, "The entire media industry is reconfiguring itself for a future where consumer habits are fundamentally different from those of even just a year or two ago. Tough Cookie and Whizz Kid are in the best possible position to make the most of the huge opportunities that are starting to arise with that change."

The Polyphonic Spree de-robe with Tough Cookie

28/11/2006 17:34:46 By TC

The Polyphonic Spree have de-robed into a new sexed-up all black combat kit, with hearts, red crosses and a robed Polyphonic Spree embroidered logo. The look represents the title of their forthcoming album "The Fragile Army." Musical Director and lead singer, Tim DeLaughter said, 'The image of the "old robe look" is actually us in the robes...we refer to it as our "badge of strength" ...we always liked the fact it was in abstract form. A mass of some type, not particular to robes. The heart is a symbol of care and thoughtfulness. The cross represents first aid...all these as humans, we're capable of. It's just a reminder. We are The Fragile Army.' The Polyphonic return on November 7th with the new EP Wait, an Itunes digital release only. The tracklist for Wait includes two preview tracks (I'm Calling & Mental Cabaret) which will be included on the band's new album, The Fragile Army, due in 2007; as well as covers of songs by Nirvana, the Psychedelic Furs and Spree frontman Tim DeLaughter's former band, Tripping Daisy. The EP will be released digitally by UK independent Tough Cookie.
